since 1999. There are picnic tables and grills on site. The historical fountain has been restored. The
restaurant, too, has been partially restored, converted into the Takos Visitor Center. The old trolley

FORT HOWARD - BALTIMORE COUNTY PARK
(source: Wikipedia.com)
Fort Howard is the name of a former military installation in Baltimore County, Maryland, near the
present-day settlement of Fort Howard. The installation earned the nickname the "Bulldog at
Baltimore's Gate" and served as the coastal artillery headquarters for Baltimore. The installation was
turned over to the Veterans' Administration in 1940, which still owns the majority of the property. The
portion of the property containing the old coastal artillery fortications was declared surplus federal
land and is now the county park. Visitors to the park can enjoy hiking, birdwatching, bicycling, fishing,
picnicking, group events and remnants of the old artillery fortifications. Fort Howard Park is also
home to the Edgemere-Sparrows Point Rec Council Haunted Dungeons.
